Man in court for killing a 30-year-old during fight

A 31-year-old man and suspected gang leader, Lateef Adegbola, has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly shooting one Rilwan Mustapha to death during a street gang fight.


The incident was said to have happened at Aliwo Street, in Amukoko area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the crisis started when a gang, known as the Akamaye boys, and some area boys from Aliwo Street, clashed over territorial encroachment.

The defendant, who is also known as ‘Osanle’ was said to have led the Akamaye boys in a shoot-out which killed the deceased.

He was initially declared wanted before the police apprehended him.

Adegbola was arraigned on  two counts of murder.

The charge read in part, “That you, Lateef Adegbola, and others now at large, on the 27th day of August, 2013 at about 7.20pm, at Aliwo Street, Amukoko, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial Distict, did unlawfully kill one Rilwan Mustapha, aged 30 years by shooting him with a gun and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

His plea was not taken.

The magistrate, Mr. O.O Olatunji, agreed to remand the defendant in prison custody pending legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till November 14.f
